I am a professional historian, a museum professional, a father and a husband.  I began this blog when faced with what seemed to be a serious and terrifying health problem.  Now we know that that problem is less serious and less terrifying than previously imagined, and I am very thankful for that.

These days I write about a range of topics, all of them in some sense connected to the tenuousness, uncertainty, and complexity of knowledge, meaning, and life…sort of.  I am surely not that deep, but I try.
